Megan's Avon 3 Day Pledge Page

If I told you I'm walking 60 miles for 3 days to help women with undetected breast cancer find out early enough to survive, would you support me?

I've decided to do something bold, and I'll admit, bording on lunatic, about breast cancer. I'm walking 60 miles, from Baltimore to Washington DC, to raise money for breast cancer. Though I'm only required to raise $1900, my personal goal is $5000, and I'm confident I'll reach it.

Why have I decided to do this? The statistics are staggering. Over one million women in America are walking around with breast cancer right now, AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW IT. That is really scary. 97% of women who are diagnosed early survive for more than 5 years. Every woman is at risk for breast cancer, and that means every person on this earth is at risk to lose their mom, sister, daughter, wife or best friend. If that's not convincing enough, here are a few more facts about breast cancer:

-182,000 women in this country will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year
-over 40,000 women will die from breast cancer this year, 80% with no genetic predisposition to having the disease
-every 3 minutes a new case of breast cancer will be diagnosed, every 13 minutes, someone dies from it
-1 out of 9 women develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
-Men can develop breast cancer as well, this year 1500 men will be diagnosed, and 400 will die.

Are you shocked? Scared even? Because I am. That's why I'm walking, because when breast cancer is detected early, it can be stopped. A mammogram is a simple procedure that can detect breast cancer in it's earliest stages, but women have to have access to it, and much education is needed.

I hope you'll help me with this mission I've chosen, if not with a donation, then a message in my guestbook so I know you support me. Keep checking back for updates about my training, fundraising, and details about the walk, like where you can go to cheer us on. Thank you!
